I grew up on dirt bikes in Arizona and have been riding a friends extra bike for a while now. I'd like to get a bike but don't have a lot of money to throw around.   I would like to get something I can put together myself. I figured I would be better off buying something badly in need of repair and buying what I need as the money comes along. I don't even care if it's running. Can someone tell me if this sounds like a descent plan, and where I can find what I'm looking for? Thanks a lot.

If this is your first antique bike, your better off getting one that is running.  Fixing or even finding the correct parts can be a nightmare!  Of course all the parts that are missing are the most exspensive and elusive things to find too.  Your time and money ahead to find one up and running.  It took me eight years to find out what the part looked like on my first project bike and when I found it.........well you don't want to know what I had to give for it! Oh, and rebuilding the engine isn't as easy as it may sound eather.  Of course you could always chance sending it to some unknown person (who works cheap) and then never see your engine/tranny again.  Many things to take into concideration but then it's just my opinion.  Good luck.
