Hi Stan,

   Set screw binding will be caused by the width or length of the set screw portion that extends into the pump plunger.  I would check to see where the binding is occurring, then remove whatever metal on the set screw so that the set screw can be fully seated in the pump body.  The situation you are having might be related to the use of a reproduction set screw.  The reproduction may not be 100% identical to an original.  Whatever you do; the more engagement of the set screw you can get into the pump plunger (without binding); the better.  If you cannot get the set screw fully tightened in the pump body,  I would liquid threadlock it at deep as you can get it (again without binding).
