I bought a frame a while back to give to my son to learn to rebuild. I was not sure what the frame was (and neither was th guy I bought it off of) but the more I look it over, the more I think it is a 40-53 Indian (I was told this because of the rear shocks). Can anyone help me out with further ID of the frame? It does have several numbers stamped and cast into it but I cannot match it to numbers I find on the internet. The rear shock mounts display the number 11148/9 with a cast of E.V.L TD (The trademark symbol) and another interesting one is a stamp on the union just below the neck spout, it reads C11 15163. Can anyone even tell me if this is in fact an Indian or am I barking up the wrong tree???

Indian didn't stamp the numbers on the neck like you found. Plunger frames were on the left rear plunger, either on the frame lug of the bottom for plunger (41-51) and on the axel houseing (1940) or right frame rail near floor board mount (52-53)  On Indian's the 1st# is Model, no listing for a #1, starts with #2- scout, 3 cheif, 4-four, 5-jr scout, 6- sport scout. you have #1, don't sound like a Indian.[Image Can Not Be Found]  Indian serial #'s two and three are year numbers  48 = 1948. that would be 1911 or 1951 on yours?  '50 to'53 did start with a C but Indians were CEJ, C (1951), CS (52-53).  Need someone more familiar with 1951's to clarify if 11 after the C is possable. Numbers and location don't sound Indian. Can you down load photo? Battery tray would help identify it. Could be Ariel, Triumph, Victoria, Norton,  and probably some others.

Diffently not V twin Indian.  Could be vertical, 149,249,Warrior , Arrow tpye thing. 1950's +- .  I don't have any info on those or pictures of just the frame, I don't think.  E mail a couple of pictures to Stark and the #'s they'll tell whitch model for sure.  Seeing it I don't think its British, but will take a look Sun. when I get back.  Good luck, on the old site there were quite a few guys into Warrior's if you can find 1 of them, bet they'll know.
